The competing Nations in the 2019 FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations have all made it to Donnybrook Park in Harare, Zimbabwe. Despite a few little hiccups for some of the teams in getting their bikes across the border in time. Team Botswana was the most inconvenienced and after a bit of true “Ross Branch” style negotiation, they are almost on site and should probably get to the venue just after sunset, but their team manager and a few of the riders have already arrived and are looking forward to the weekends racing.

“We have never been messed around at the border posts before, so it was definitely something we hadn’t anticipated, so our negotiations had to be put to the test, but thank goodness our teams bikes are through and on the way,” said Team Manager Khoziba Lebala, after getting stuck for a few hours at the border.

“Once again we had a few small issues that have been thrown at us with getting the Ugandan and Botswanan teams bikes but we handled these exceptionally well and my Zimbabwe Motocross Federation team we were able to get the bikes into Zimbabwe and just in time for the race day tomorrow, “ said Rick Goby (ZMF). So with all the bikes here or just outside of town, the teams are starting to get into gear for racing. The final checks now cleared up and ratified by FIM observer, Ivo Tsvetanov, Joseph Mwangala (FIM Jury President) and Marco Colman’s (FIM Africa Motocross Commission President). The track is ready and final watering process will happen overnight, courtesy of Dharwizi and we are ready for a world class event.

“It’s more than just a race, it’s the true spirit of Motocross which is now in Zimbabwe, and if you’re not here, you can’t really explain it to people, but hopefully our social media coverage will show this,” said Laren Van Der Westhuizen, ex winner of the event and the official commentator for the event and joining his ex South African team mate Greg Moloney, on the microphones for the commentary track side and on the live streaming. They are both looking forward to bringing the crowds at DonnyBrook and world wide on social media, some world class race action.

Media will be looked after at the circuit by the Zimbabwe Motocross Event team, as well as the Bogwheelers Club. Media Centre will be at the track with WIFI and a facility to work from for all accredited journalists and photographers.

The event will also be televised, with a post production being put together by the 2 Wheels TV crew from South Africa, who will put the post production onto DSTV Ignition Channel 189, as well as on You Tube.

For those looking to get to the event, DonnyBrook Park is on Arcturus Road in Harare, and race action happens on the Saturday and Sunday respectively (31 August and 1 September 2019). Race day starts with practice sessions from 08h00 and race action at approximately 14h00 on Saturday and then 08h30 on Sunday.
