After Helsinki (Finland) in 2014, where the Conference theme was “Lead the Change, Be the Change”, the city of Gaborone in Botswana will welcome the 7th International Working Group (IWG) World Conference on Women and Sport from 17 to 20 May 2018.
This year’s Conference will be exploring the theme: “Determine the future. Be Part of the Change”.
The FIM Commission for Women in Motorcycling (CFM) and the FIM Africa Women in Motorcycling Commission (WIMC) will take part as speakers in this event and take a leading role in the session “Tell their Story: Leveraging Media to Advocate for Women's Sport”. Among several other panels and side events, our volunteers will set up a stand providing information and materials to participants and showcasing the presence of women in motorcycling. The delegation making the presentation and running the stand will include two great African guest speakers: off-road rider Kirsten Landman and SuperBike rider Mo Mahope.
The IWG World Conferences on Women and Sport are milestone events. Every four years they focus global attention on specific goals and action steps aimed at offering men and women equal opportunities in the sporting arena.
The economic, social and cultural impact of the many hundreds of delegates representing nations from all continents is significant, and has resulted in concrete benefits for the Conference’s previous host countries.
