WOODWARD FOCUSSED TO EXCEL IN NEW SUPER-GP CLASS

Posted on February 21, 2018 at 4:25 AM

The Monroe Racing team is preparing for a busy weekend with South Africa’s national superbike championship, the Super-GP Champions Trophy getting their 2018 season started at Zwartkops Raceway in Centurion. Round 1 will see the team entering two classes with Savannah Woodward and Luca Coccioni competing on Saturday, February 24.

Woodward’s last appearance on the Super-GP roster was at the third round of the 2017 championship; also hosted at Zwartkops Raceway. Since then she focussed on further developing herself as rider and the nine period also saw her representing her sponsors abroad. Woodward will be competing in the SuperJuniors class riding a brand new Yamaha R3.

She comes fresh from her magnificent two victories during the opening round of the SAMRA 250 Ladies Cup series and will be looking forward to continue this momentum. She’ll be doing double-duty on the day; also competing as part of the regional entry list sharing the circuit with the national Super600 class. Here she’ll be joined by Coccioni who has been making a couple of guest appearances for the team since 2017. For this class both riders will be competing on Kawasaki ZX-6 machices.

Coccioni has impressed during his prior outings with the team which also saw him doing double-duty by representing the team while also competing in the SuperJuniors category on his own machine.

Rider predictions:

Savannah Woodward: “I’m looking forward to this event. We’ve been working very hard to prepare for it and the time has come to put this preparation to the test. Competing in two categories will not be an easy challenge, but one I’ve prepared hard to take on. The personal training that I’ve done through the RICH Racing training programme has given me the stamina to do this; I’d like to recommend this programme to all aspiring riders eager to succeed at the top. I’m also looking forward to sporting my new OneX South Africa leathers.”

Luca Coccioni: “It’s always a honour to represent the Monroe Racing team. The efforts they’re doing to make the sponsors Monroe South Africa and Fuchs Lubricants South Africa look good along with their professionalism is unrivalled. It is the sort of environment where being present already motivates you that extra bit. I’d like to thank Team Manager Vic Rich for this opportunity and will give my all at Zwartkops Raceway.”

At the time of going to press the final programme for the weekend is yet to be issued by GAS Sports, but the Monroe Racing team would like to invite all to attend the day’s racing which promises to deliver a feast of action with a host of two-wheel categories competing.
