LHMP was hosts again this year to the 2nd Round MX, where  the circuit soil is well suited to the seasonal wet conditions. The next 4 rounds will be in the north during the dry season.

The best thing to happen to Zambian MX this year, is to see the kids arrive with their dads and mums, which really added the missing dimension to our motocross. The Pits soon filled up with cars and bikes and tents, while bikes and riders queued up to be entered and scrutineered. Missing was the smiley face of Beth Becker who was always there at every Event.

The track was now under a new Committee, and was prepped to run anti clockwise, instead of the usual clockwise.

There were 14 Juniors in the 3 classes, 8 MX125, which included 4 lovely ladies who would race in both classes concurrently(MX125 and Ladies). Then there was 6 Vets and 2 Bs. 7 riders in MX1 and MX2 combined. This time, 4 Quads turned up as well.

The new finish jump had been extended, and the final Jump had a “Joker” option that would launch the riders twice as high.

Every class, was just as exciting to watch, and with free entry, by lunch time, several hundred spectators were seen enjoying the Lusaka weather, racing and catering.

The forthcoming MXoAN to be held in August in Kitwe, has given the sport an extra dimension of anticipated excitement.

Veteran rider Dale Holliday on his new Honda 250 decided to race in the MX2 class where there was stiffer competition, and he won all 3 rounds. His 2013 adversary, Justin Barrett, sat out the racing with a knee operation from a soccer injury. Vet Rider Gavin Love that suffered a bad concussion at last years MXoAN  at Syringa, made a great comeback in the MX1 class on board a new KTM 450, and although he was pushed at each race by Carl Argente, also on a new Honda 450, Gavin didn’t fall or falter and went on to win all 3 races. The Vets class was won by Richard Franklin on a Honda 250 2-stroke(13 years old).

But excitement was just as much to be seen in the 4 ladies racing in the MX125 class, where 3 of the ladies were just beaten by a whisker by Leah’s brother Scott Heygate. His sister Leah amassed the most points in the Ladies classification.

The new tunnel under the finish jump gave access for the spectators to the inside  of the track.

Prize-giving was followed by a social BBQ that ended at around 8pm.

The next National round will be held in Ndola on the 11th May.
