Uganda: Ladies to Spice Up Africa Motocross

Federation of International Motorcycling (FIM) Africa Cup that will take place at Busiika tomorrow has been spiced up with a women's race.

Uganda has fielded six women who will be up against their counterparts up against their counterpart from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya and Ivory Coast.


Team Uganda Captain Arthur Blick reckons that Esther Mwangala, Sharifah Kafumbe Mukasa, Vanessa Van Pee, Nathalie Van Pee, Ivy Byaruhanga and Machi Farouqui will shine on the big stage. The Ugandan female riders have been training with the men's team which certainly gives them an edge over the visitors.


"This is intended to encourage female riders to join the sport. The near future we shall establish a ladies categories. It's a matter of making the numbers," Blick said.


The continental showpiece at Uganda Motorsport Arena, Busiika starts with a qualifying round today ahead of the main race tomorrow.


Competitors from Kenya, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Ivory Coast were already in the country.


Uganda yesterday released a team of 44 riders who will compete in the 50c.c, 65c.c, 85c.c, 125c.c, MX 2 and MX 1 categories.


The continental event organized by Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda is sponsored by Coca Cola, Total Uganda, Uganda Motorsport Arena,Tiger Security, Farm Engineering Industries, Warid Telecom, International Air Ambulance, Safe Solutions, Fotogenix, YAMASEC, Big Mike's Bar, Mountains of the Moon Hotel, Silver Springs Hotel, Blue Sky International, All Seasons Events, SMS
