BRIEF ON THE 2ND ROUND HELD ON 2ND/3RD JUNE, 2012 IN UGANDA.
The 2nd round of the FIM Africa Central Africa Challenge took place on the weekend of the 2nd/3rd June, 2012 at the Uganda Motorsports Arena track – Busiika, Uganda. This round saw the participation of 59 riders – 19 from Kenya and 40 from Uganda. The entry list also had 2 female riders, Esther Mwangala in the 50cc class and Sharifa Nansereka in the 65cc class.
For the first time round, Uganda’s effort to build for the future of motocross saw the dream start to materialize when Uganda swept all the junior motocross categories. Uganda dominated the junior categories by taking all the top 3, top 2 and 1st position of the MX 50, MX 65 and MX 85 classes respectively. Kenya retained its dominance in the senior classes by taking the first 2 positions in each of the Mx 125 and MX 2 classes while in the MX 1 class Kenya took the first but Uganda took the 2nd and 3rd position.
For the first time in the organization of motocross in Uganda, the organizers of the event provided a standby chopper to airlift a rider in case of an emergency. Luckily enough, because no major incident occurred, the chopper never had to airlift anybody.
The event was sponsored by Farm Engineering Industries Ltd – the title sponsor, Blue Sky International, Yamatec Ltd, International Air Ambulance, Safe Solutions Ltd, All Seasons Events Ltd, and Photogenix (U) Ltd.
